BC7ARD OF SUPERVISORS' ~'~°°' ' ~ ~'}~ CC)L~iNTY QF HUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA L Reso~ufion X10. 87-239 RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION AND APPRECIATION WHEREAS, during the month of September 1987 the State of California has been subjected to an unparalleled number of lightning-caused forest and rangeland wildfires; and WHEREAS, these more than 1,300 fires have devastated valuable timber, rangeland and wildlife habitat, destroyed homes and private property, caused thousands of persons to be evacuated from their homes and communities and endangered the lives of both citizens and firefighters; and WHEREAS, the containment and suppression of these fires was possible only by the selfless, heroic and dedicated exemplary actions of some 17,000 firefighters from throughout this county, this state and, indeed, this nation; and WHEREAS, the Butte Gounty Board of Supervisors wishes to acknowledge the outstanding contributions and efforts of a11, including but not limited to, firefighters from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Prevention; United States Forest Service; California Conservation Corps; Butte County Volunteer Fire Companies; inmates from the California Department of Corrections; California Youth Authority; United States Bureau of Land Management; Washington State Department of Natural Resources; Oroville, E1 Medio, Paradise and Gridley Fire Departments; and other citizens from all walks of life who provided invaluable assistance. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors does herewith express our sincere gratitude and highly commend those firefighters whose efforts and contributions above and beyond the normal call of duty has preserved lives, property and natural resources throughout this county and this state. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Board declares September 15 through October 8, 1987 as "Butte County Firefighter Appreciation•Month' and encourage all Butte County citizens to convey, by whatever means appropriate, their personal appreciation to these firefighters to whom we are all indebted. -z- PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 15th day of September, 1987, by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Fulton, McInturf, McLaughlin, Vercruse and Chair Doi an NOES: None ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: DO N, Chair o the Butte C unty Board of Supervisors TEST: MARTIN J.
