Resolution No. ss-os9 RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING JUNE 25, 1988 AS "A DAY TO REMEMBER - KOREAN WAR" WHEREAS, the United Nations had 996,937 killed, wounded and missing during the Korean War; and WHEREAS, the United States of America had 54,246 killed, 103,308 wounded and 8,177 missing in action, with 389 still officially listed as prisoners of war; and WHEREAS, the State of California has 379 men still listed as Missing In Action; and WHEREAS, officials of the Chosin Few, a Korean veterans nonprofit organization is actively working to build an International Korean War Memorial in California; and WHEREAS, this memorial will recognize everyone, not only the Americans, who defended Korea during the conflict; and WHEREAS, the memorial will be built at Fort MacArthur, in San Pedro, California, overlooking the Pacific ocean. Its location symbolizing the last U.S. territory seen by those American servicemen who did not return from the war; and WHEREAS, it is our fervent wish to ensure that those Americans who died in the Korean War, those still missing and those officially listed as prisoners are not forgotten by this generation or future generations; and WHEREAS, we publicly recognize and acknowledge the sacrifices made by all veterans in behalf of democracy; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, California hereby proclaims June 25, 1988 as a DAY TO REMEMBER for those who fought in the Korean War. -2- PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 7th day of June, 1988 by the fallowing vote: AYES: Supervisors Dolanr Fulton, McLaughlin, Vercruse and Chairman McInturf NOES: None ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: None HASKEL A.
