RESOLUTION IN APPRECIATION OF RUSSELL DUANE BERai~(AN
WHEREAS, Russell Duane Bergman is retiring from the
Oroville Police Department after having served for 25 years on the
force; and
WHEREAS, during the past seven years he has served as
Oroville's juvenile detective officer working with the schools and
school administration for the betterment of youth. In this
capacity he has been instrumental in organizing several programs
dealing with school children, including, but not limited to bicycle
safety programs and Operation Stay-In-School Program; and
WHEREAS, Detective Bergman was responsible for originating
Oroville Police Department's Juvenile Advisory Board, a program
dealing with children age SO to 1Z who are first time criminal
offenders. This program diverts the children from the formal
criminal justice system and has been so successful that none of the
183 persons processed have been arrested after completing the
program; and
WHEREAS, Detective Bergman was responsible for introducing
Operation Identification to the Oroville community and, with the
assistance of volunteer staff, hundreds of school children have been
fingerprinted and their printed cards given to their parents for
safekeeping; and
WHEREAS, Detective Bergman was the first person to
initiate Neighborhood Watch in the Oroville community and over the
years has attended numerous meetings promoting that worthwhile
program; and
WHEREAS, Detective Bergman was the Oroville Exchange Club
Officer of the Year in 1980, in addition to receiving recognition
from the National Child Safety Council for his outstanding and
dedicated service to the safety of children, and also the recipient
of the Golden Gifts to Education award representing law enforcement.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED the Butte County Board
of Supervisors, on it's own behalf and on behalf of the residents
of the County of Butte, would like to express deep appreciation for
the unselfish dedication and devotion given by Russell Duane Bergman
during his 25 years service with the groville Police Department.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of
Supervisors this 21st day of June 1988 by the following vote:
