Mary Benton/Exchange Club Child Abuse
Prevention Awareness Day
WHEREAS, child abuse and neglect is a serious and growing
problem in America annually affecting more than 2 million of our
nation's children; and
WHEREAS, this societal malignancy called child abuse and
neglect respects no racial, religious, socioeconomic or
geographic boundaries, and in fact, has reached major
proportions in nearly all regions of our nation; and
WHEREAS, there is a great need for child abuse prevention
counseling and educational programs which undertake and deal
effectively with abuse and neglect of the nation's young people;
and
WHEREAS, Exchange Club member Maria Benton has pledged to
drive 16,000 miles across America to raise public awareness and
funds for the Exchange Club's child abuse prevention efforts with
the monies raised in Butte County going towards helping our local
abused and/or neglected children and their families;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE TT RESOLVED the Butte County Board of
Supervisors hereby proclaim August 18, 1988 as Maria
Benton/Exchange Club Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Day in
Butte County and urge all citizens to utilize this day to learn
to better recognize, understand and respond to this grievous
problem;
BE IT RESOLVED that the Exchange Club Center is commended
for their efforts in helping stop child abuse in our community
and across the country, and urge full public support of their

successful effort, in concert with their National Exchange Club
Foundation for the Prevention of Child Abuse and to continue and
expand their work in this area.

Supervisors this 16th day of August, 1988 by the following vote:
