Resolufion No. ss-172
WHEREAS, the values that define America are found in her
people; and
WHEREAS, American society is only as strong as the sum
total of the strength of her individual citizens; and
WHEREAS, it is in the family, the cell unit of society,
that the values of self-discipline, self-esteem, self--reliance, and
integrity are first learned; and
WHEREAS, it is within the family circle that basic
attitudes are first formed toward the dignity of honest labor,
reverence for life and the Giver of life, respect for others'
rights and property, patriotism, loyalty to the American way of
life, and the other values and virtues upon which the greatness of
this nation and state rests; and
WHEREAS, if society is to be preserved, the family
organization must be preserved; and
WHEREAS, strong families grow strong roots and are
anchored in traditions, family history, and family genealogy; and
WHEREAS, family networking bonds the family members ever
closer as they help, encourage, and sustain each other, plan for
the future, and achieve goals together; and
WHEREAS, it has become traditional for the Congress and
President of these United States to proclaim the week in which
Thanksgiving Day falls as "National Family Week", and
WHEREAS, the County of Butte is a leader among counties
in recognizing and encouraging the celebration of "Family Week".
NOW, 'THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Butte County Board
of Supervisors that they hereby recognize "1988 California Family
Week" as being the week of November 21 through 27, 1988, and
encourage all Butte County citizens to celebrate Family Week with
1988 CALIFORNIA FAMILY WEER

family reunions, and to establish stronger family ties and
reinforce and institute family traditions through feasting,
worship, and other appropriate activities.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of November, 1988 by the
following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Fulton, McLaughlin, Vercruse and
Chairman McTnturf
