HomeMy WebLinkAbout89-026~:, m :e~- ~ s t; ~ r - -- - ~., ~~ `' ~~:' BOARL] OF SUPS GOUNTY.OF BUTTE, STATE *j• ~ ~ ~ Reso1 RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING JUNE 25, 1989 THE 39TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE KOREAN WAR, A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE FOR THOSE WHO FOUGHT TN DEFENSE OF THEIR COUNTRY WHEREAS, the United States of America had 54,246 killed, 103,308 wounded and 8,177 missing in action, with. hundreds still officially listed as prisoners of war; and WHEREAS, the State of California still has men listed as Missing In Action; and WHEREAS, officials of the Chosin Few, a Korea veterans nonprofit organization is actively working to build an International Korean War Memorial in California; and WHEREAS, this memorial will recognize everyone, not only the Americans, who defended Korea during the conflict; and WHEREAS, the memnrial will be built at Fort MacArthur, in San Pedro, California, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Its location symbolizing the last U.S. Territory seen by those American servicemen who did not return from the war; and WHEREAS, we publicly recognize and acknowledge the sacrifices made by all veterans in behalf of democracy; NOW THEREFORE BE TT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, California, hereby proclaims June 25, 1989 as a DAY OF REMEMBRANCE for those who fought in the Korean War. IT TS FURTHER RESOLVED that an invitation is extended to all Board of Supervisors in the State of California to join with us in acknowledging this DAY OF REMEMBRANCE.
