RESOLUTION COMMENDING
UPPER RIDGE WILDERNESS AREA, INC.
WHEREAS, the Upper Ridge Nature Preserve was established
in August 1985 by the U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of
Land Management; and
WHEREAS, this 120 acre wilderness preserve was created,
in part, by the dedicated efforts of a local group of volunteers
who since founded the Upper Ridge Wilderness Area, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, the Upper Ridge Wilderness Area, Inc. has over
the past four years cooperated in transforming a vacant and
sometimes abused parcel of public land into an educational and
recreational opportunity for citizens; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of the Interior Bureau of
Land Management has bestowed the 1989 National Award to the Upper
Ridge Wilderness Area, Inc. recognizing the conservation and
management of national cultural resources of the U.S. through
volunteer service for America's public lands.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Butte County Board
of Supervisors that it commends the Upper Ridge Wilderness Area,
2nc. for receiving °Volunteer of Public Lands" national award,
which is one of only ten awards to be presented in the nation this
year by the federal government for volunteer efforts.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Butte, State of California this 2nd day of May, 1989 by
the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, McInturf, Vercruse and Vice Chairman
McLaughlin
NOES : None
ABSENT : Chairman Fulton
NOT VOTING: None
