RESOLUTION SUPPORTING HR 876
WHEREAS, the Land and Water Conservation Fund, established in
1964, has funded more than 30,000 projects in every state, five
territories and the District of Columbia; and
WHEREAS, the President's Commission on Americans Outdoors
recommended the creation of a dedicated trust recognizing the need for
a strong outdoor commitment from the nation's capital to safeguard the
environment, to expand recreational opportunities on federal lands and
to protect and improve the federal estate; and
WHEREAS, the American Heritage Trust Act {HR 876) would ensure a
return to the original Land & Water Conservation Fund monetary
commitments by creating a self-perpetuating S1 billion trust; and
WHEREAS, this Land & Water Conservation Fund Program has been
tremendously successful in providing critically needed money for
recreation planning, acquisition and development; and
WHEREAS, demand for capital investment in recreation conservation
and historic preservation are greater than ever and delaying action
means the permanent loss of irreplaceable resources and increased costs
in the future;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the County of Butte does hereby
support HR 876 and does urge Congressional enactment of this legislation
in 1989.
