HomeMy WebLinkAbout89-080 RESOLUTION OPPOSING REDUCTION OF STATE FUNDING SUPPORT FOR THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM WHEREAS, the Governor's 1989-90 State Budget proposes severe cuts in the County Criminal Justice System Subvention Program Funds, specifically the reduction of $3b.9 million from the current level of county subvention; and WHEREAS; public agencies and private, non-profit organizations are finding it increasingly difficult to provide a variety of .services to juveniles; and WHEREAS, counties, regardless of their size or geographical location, are charged with the provision of services to and the supervision of juvenile offenders; and WHEREAS, the County Criminal Justice System Subvention Program funds numerous juvenile justice activities which have at once provided for the local supervision of juvenile offenders and limited commitments to the California Yauth Authority; and WHEREAS, programs funded under the auspices of the County Criminal Justice System Subvention Program offer an effective and less costly approach to the supervision and treatment of many youthful individuals; and WHEREAS, counties have found it necessary to absorb an increasing burden in the funding of an array of state-mandated programs involving a broad spectrum of services and ever tighter resource limits are exhausting counties' abilities to fill the increasing need to provide services for the juvenile offender population; and WHEREAS, any reduction in the County Criminal Justice System Subvention Program will mean reductions in critical local services and an acceleration of the fiscal crisis incessantly looming over county operations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE xT RESOLVER that Butte County opposes any reduction in state funding support from the County Criminal 3ustice System Subvention Program.
