AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE COMPENSATION OF
OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF THE COUNTY OF
BUTTE AND REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR POR-
TIONS OF 0 RDINANCES INCONSISTENT THEREWITH.
THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF
BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA, DO ORDAIN A5
FOLLOWS:
SECTION NO o 1
SUBJECT/AND SHORT TITLE: The salaries and
number of positions of the officers and em-
ployees, of the County of Butte, are fixed and
determined as hereinafter set forth; and the
ordinance shall be known as the "Salary Ordinance."
SECTION N0. 2
MONTHLY SALARY SCALE: The following salary
scale shall apply for classifications indicated
in Section No. 3 (A) of tti.s ordinance.

Upon the recommendation of the sheriff and with the
approval of the board of supervisors, a constable who devotes
a substantial portion of his time to law: enforcement work under
the direction of the sheriff may be paid compensation in addition
to his salary as constable in an amount which would correspond to
the salary he would earn as a deputy sheriff. The additional
compensation paid a constable shall be based upon merit and
length of service as set forth in sections 6.7 and 6.8 of the
Personnel Rules.

SECTION N0. 5
Beginning September 1, l9bb, the classification, number
and salary range of positions authorised for each department are
set forth in the following sections. No department head shall
appoint more employees to a class of position than is provided
for except that (1) a new employee may. be appointed to a position
not more than ten (l0) working days before the employee he is ~,
replacing is separated; and (2) that the positions of Clerk II
Steno Clerk II, and Account Clerk II, may be filled with the
lower classifications in each series.

PAYMENT'"OFrSALARIES~' The salaries of the officers] deputies,
clerks and employees of the several departments and institutions
~of the county shall be-paid semimonthly. Extra help employed by
,departments and institutions of the county shall be limited to the
budgetary provisions tkierefor and such extra help shall also be
paid semi-monthly in the same manner as the officers, deputies,
clerks and employees referred to above.
SECTION N0. 46
All other ordinances inconsistent with the provisions of this
ordinance are hereby~~repealed as of the effective date hereof,
provided specifically that provisions in all previous ordinances,
relating to health insurance for elective and appointive officers
and employees of the~County of Butte, shall remain in full force
and effect.
