HomeMy WebLinkAbout90-060 RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING EARTH DAY 1990 AND PROCLAIMING APRIL 26, 1990 A8 "THE NEW COMMUTE" WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 is a national and international call to action for all citizens to join in a global effort to save the planet; and WHEREAS, Earth Day 1990 campus and community activities and events will educate all citizens on the importance of acting in an environmentally sensitive fashion using efficient transportation and adopting a more ecologically sound lifestyle; and WHEREAS, the County of Butte encourages pedestrians, bicycling, public transit, and ride sharing as alternative modes of transportation to the auto; and WHEREAS, the increased use of alternative transportation will greatly improve pollution problems, alleviate traffic congestion, and increase energy efficiency in Butte County; and THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors proclaim Thursday, April 26, 1990 as "The New Commute" in the interest of all citizens leaving their cars at home; and BE IT FIIRTHER RESOLVED, organizations, schools, businesses and governments should encourage members, students and employees to participate in "The New Commute" and provide appropriate incentives to do so. -2- PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors on the 3rd of April, 1990 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors McInturf, Dolan, Vercruse, Fulton and Chairman McLaughlin NOES: Nane ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: None ¢nA YV\~ ~ ED MC LAIIGHLIN, hair, Butte County Board of Supervisors ATTEST: WILLIAM H.
