i,]FIF:RF.AS, California's children are our most precious resource; and
LiFlF:RF.AS, child abuse and neglect are growing problems in our State and across
the country; and
WHRRFAS, California's Foster Care system exists to provide for the physical
and emotional needs of children in crisis; and
iiF1FRRAS, the Foster Care system serves approximately 75,000 children in
California and over 700 children in Butte County, most of whom are living in licensed
foster homes; and
L~FTF:RF.AS, over 150 foster families in Butte County and thousands of California
foster families open their hearts and homes each year to foster children in times of
crisis, providing a loving and supportive home environment to children who cannot live
safely with their parents until family problems are resolved; and
LdFTF:RF.AS, foster families faithfully provide an essential service to the
children of our County and State; and
WHFRF.AS, Butte County foster families deserve to be recognized for their
committment, compassion, and concern for children in need.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors
declares the period of May 1 to May 31, 1990 FOSTER CARE AWARF.NF:4.4 MONTH, and urges all
Butte County residents to recognize and participate in this special observance.
