WHEREAS, the global spread of the HIV infection and AIDS
necessitates a worldwide effort of increased communication,
education and preventive action to stop the transmission of the HIV
virus and the spread of AIDS; and
WHEREAS, the World Health Organization has designated
December 1 of each year as World AIDS Day, a day to expand and
strengthen the worldwide effort to stop AIDS; and,
WHEREAS, the World Health Organization now estimates that
over two million women are currently infected with HIV, and that
during the 1990's over three million women and children will die
from AIDS: and,
WHEREAS, World AIDS Day 1990 will focus on Women and
AIDS, reflecting concern over the increasing prevalence of HIV/AIDS
in women and over the new challenges women must face as care
providers, health workers, and educators, and;
WHEREAS, World AIDS Day also provides a chance to focus
on special concerns related to HIV/AIDS and pregnancy, childbirth
and raising children;
THEREFORE, the Butte County Board of Supervisors do
hereby declare December 1, 1990 as World AIDS Bay and urge all of
our citizens to take part in activities and observances designed
to increase awareness and understanding of AIDS as a global
challenge, to take part in AIDS prevention activities and programs
and to join the, global effort to prevent transmission of the HIV
virus and the further spread of AIDS.

PASSED AND ADOPTED this 27th day of November by the Butte
County Board of Supervisors by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Dolan, Fulton and Chairman McLaughlin
NOES: None
ABSENT: Supervisors McInturf and Vercruse
