HomeMy WebLinkAbout91-129RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING AIDS AWARENESS MONTH OCTOBER, 1991 WHEREAS, the global spread of the HIV infection and AIDS necessitates a worldwide effort of increased communication, education and preventive action to stop the transmission of the HIV virus and the spread of AIDS; and WHEREAS, national and local organizations have designated October of each year as AIDS Awareness Month, a month to expand and strengthen the worldwide effort to stop AIDS; and, WHEREAS, the World Health Organization now estimates that there are over 10 million adults infected with the virus thought to cause AIDS (HIV); and WHEREAS, AIDS Awareness Month 1991 will focus on Women and Youth, reflecting concern over the increasing prevalence of HIV/AIDS in women and youth; and; WHEREAS, AIDS Awareness Month 1991 also provides a chance to focus on special concerns related to HIV/AIDS and pregnancy, childbirth and young people; THEREFORE, the Butte County Board of Supervisors do hereby declare October 1991 ,as AIDS Awareness Month and urge all of our citizens to take part in activities and observances designed to increase awareness and understanding of AIDS as a global challenge, to take part in AIDS prevention activities and programs and to join the global effort to prevent transmission of the HIV virus and the further spread of AIDS. _2_ PASSED AND ADOPTED this 15th day of October, 1991 by the Butte County Board of Supervisors by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Houx, McLaughlin, Fulton and Chair Dolan NOES: None ABSENT: Supervisor Mclnturf NOT VOTING: None LAN, Chair, Butte County ~ Supervisors ATTEST: WILLIAM H.
