HomeMy WebLinkAbout91-143RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING NATIONAL AIDS AWARENESS DAY DECEMBER 2, 1991 WHEREAS, the global spread of the HIV infection and AIDS necessitates a worldwide effort to increase communication, education and preventive action to stop the transmission of the HIV virus and the spread of AIDS; and WHEREAS, the U.S. Public Health Service has designated December 2, 1991 as National AIDS Awareness Day, a day to focus national education and prevention efforts to prevent the spread of HIV; and WHEREAS, since August 31, 1991, there have been 191,601 men, women, and children in the United States diagnosed with AIDS; of these, 122,905 have died; and WHEREAS, worldwide every day 5,000 people are newly infected with HIV; and WHEREAS, National AIDS Awareness Day provides an opportunity to join forces, resources, and efforts to heighten awareness of AIDS; THEREFORE, the Butte County Board of Supervisors do hereby declare December 2, 1.991 as National AIDS Awareness Day and urge all of our citizens to take part in activities and observances designed to increase awareness and understanding of AIDS as a global challenge, to take part in AIDS prevention activities and programs and to join the global effort to prevent transmission of the HIV virus and the spread of AIDS. -2- PASSED AND ADOPTED this 19th day of November, 1991 by the Butte County Board of Supervisors by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors h9cInturf, Houx, McLaughlin, Fulton and Chair Dolan NOES: None ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: PJone OLAN,~Chair, Butte County of Supervisors ATTEST: WILLIAM H.
