A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF THE COUNTY OF
BUTTE CALLING AN ADVISORY ELECTION REGARDING DIVISION
OF CALIFORNIA INTO TWO STATES
WHEREAS, Assemblyman Statham, California State Legislature,
1st District, has proposed that the various counties place advisory
ballot questions before the voters at the June 1992 election
regarding the proposal that a 51st state be created by dividing
California into two states; and
WHEREAS, strong interest has been expressed in said proposal;
and
WHEREAS, this Board believes it is appropriate to provide an
opportunity for the voters of the County of Butte to express their
opinion on this matter to help guide public officials and
interested citizens in deciding whether and how to pursue said
proposal; and
WHEREAS, an advisory election would allow such an expression
of public opinion.
NOW, THEREFORE, an advisory election is hereby called,
pursuant to Elections Code Section 5353, and is ordered to be held
in the County of Butte on June 2, 1992. The proposal to be
submitted to the voters at said election shall be:
Advisory Vote Only
"Should California be divided into two states?"
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said election shall be subject to
all provisions of the Elections Code applicable to elections called
by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte. Said election
shall be consolidated with the state--wide primary election to be
held within the County on said date, the election shall be held and
conducted, election officers appointed, voting precincts
designated, ballots printed, polls opened and closed, ballots
counted and returned, returns canvassed, results declared, and all
other proceedings incidental to and connected with the election
shall be regulated and done, in accordance with the provisions of
law regulating the state-wide primary election.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all persons qualified to vote at
said state-wide primary election in the County upon the date of the
election herein provided for shall be qualified to vote upon said
advisory question.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that ballots for the election shall be
provided in the form and in the manner provided by law. On said
ballots, in addition to any other printed matter which may be
required by law, two voting squares shall be set off to the right
of the advisory proposal submitted at the election, in the manner
provided by law, one having the word "Yes" printed before it, and
the other having the word "No" printed before it.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County
of Butte, State of California, on the 25th day of February 1992 by
the following votes:
AYES: Supervisors Mclnturf, Sioux, hlcLaughlin, Fulton and Chair Dolan

ABSENT: None
NOT VOTING: None
