HomeMy WebLinkAbout92-031WHEREAS, our society has become increasingly troubled and litigious in recent times and this has led to domestic, commercial and social disharmony; an increasing need for expensive law enforcement, courts, and support personnel; and high public and private casts; and WHEREAS, in an effort to ameliorate these conditions, restore harmony, improve relations among citizens and within neighborhoods and families, and relieve the burden of litigation which is overwhelming our judiciary, many of our oitizens have turned to mediation services, with resultant social and economic benefits; and WHEREAS, the State of California and the County of Butte are engaged in promoting the use of mediation and raising public consciousness about its merits and have supported the creation and expansion of alternative dispute resolution programs; and WHEREAS, the County of Butte has recently funded a countywide mediation service to help our citizens resolve a broad range of disputes within our communities, paid far by filing fees submitted by parties suing in our local courts; and WHEREAS, dozens of retired persons and others throughout our community have volunteered to assist in the formation and expansion of such mediation services to the general public, businesses, and agencies in Butte County; and thousands of citizens have been trained and are serving as mediators throughout California to contribute to the peaceful resolution of conflict; and WHEREAS, the County of Butte supports such community efforts to resolve disputes informally, out of court, with reduced public and private expense, and with the potential for improving community harmony and relieving the burden on our courts and law enforcement agencies; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte hereby proclaims the week of March 22-28, 1992, as MEDIATION WEEK and expresses sincere appreciation to our citizens who are working diligently assisting fellow citizens and businesses in the resolution of conflict and RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MARCH 22 - 28, 1992 MEDIATION WEER -2- the settlement of disputes.
