its 25th anniversary this year having been incorporated July 1,
1967; and
WHEREAS, it was originally called a junior college which
opened its doors on a temporary campus in Durham in 1965; and
WHEREAS, a permanent 940 acre site was chosen and in
1972, building began at Pentz and Clark roads - midway between
Chico, Oroville and Paradise; and
WHEREAS, the present campus was dedicated in September,
1974 and began classes with an enrollment of 1,994 students; and
WHEREAS, Glenn Gounty voters approved annexation into the
district in 1975; and
WHEREAS, many Butte County residents now employed in the
health care, law enforcement, business, agriculture and other
fields received their education at Butte College; and
WHEREAS, associate degree and general education transfer
classes lead to continuing education at four-year colleges and
universities for many other students; and
WHEREAS, Butte College programs have been cited for
excellence by both state and national professional organizations;
and
WHEREAS, this year Butte College will offer more than 50
career education and academic transfer programs of the highest
caliber; and
WHEREAS, this year the college expects to enroll 13,000
students;

NOW, THEREFORE BE TT RESOLVED that the Butte County Board
of Supervisors does acknowledge the contributions of the Butte
Community College District on its 25th anniversary.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 18th day of August, x.992 by the
following vote:
AYES: Supervisors McTnturf, Roux, McLaughlin, Fulton and Chair Dolan
