WHEREAS, in 1940 Jean Morony was a member of the Aviation
Committee of the Chico Chamber of Commerce interested in acquiring
air service to Chico and Butte County.
WHEREAS, in 1941., Jean Morony was made aware that Moffett
Field, Army Air Corps Training Service, West Coast Training Command
was being displaced by the Navy, and was in need of a new training
airfield.
WHEREAS, Jean Morony was instrumental in promoting the
attributes of the Chico area to gain the support of Washington,
D. C. representatives to choose Chico as the site best in the
national. interest for the new Army flying school.
WHEREAS, on December 16, 1941, construction began on the
new Army Airfield, which officially became the Chico Army Flying
School on April 15, 1942. First for basic flight instruction;
followed by training of fighter pilots; and following World War II,
to prepare multi-engine aircraft for overseas flights.
WHEREAS, in 1945, the Chico Army Airfield became inactive
and the Army Corps of Engineers took aver the air base from the
Army Air Corps. Tn 1946, the City of Chico received an interim
permit to use some of the facilities. Later, the City of Chico
appointed Jean Morony to the Airport Advisory. Committee; followed
by being appointed chair of the Chico Airport Commission, to
negotiate with the government for the surplus airfield resulting in
Chico receiving the airfield facilities, sewer system and plant,
three water wells, overhead electrical system, three hangars,
several large warehouses, afire station, a terminal building, and
other buildings.
NOW, THEREFORE BE TT RESOLVED that the Butte County Soard
of Supervisors acknowledges the major contribution that Jean Morony
brought to Butte County through his willingness and determination
to bring commercial air service to Chico.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FIIRTHER RESOLVED that the County of
Butte endorses the City of Chico designation that the airfield at
the Chico Municipal Airport be named "The Jean Morcny Airfi.el.d" .

Butte, by the fallowing vote .on September Y, x.992
