Home My WebLink About92-150RESOLIITION PROCLAIMING WORLD AIDS DAY AND NATIONAL AIDS AWARENESS DAY ER _ ,,,,1„,~ 1992 WHEREAS, the global spread of the HIV infection and AIDS necessitates a worldwide effort to increase communication, education and preventive action to stop the transmission of the HIV virus and the spread of AIDS; and, WHEREAS, the World Health Organization has designated December 1 of each year as World AIDS Day, a day to expand and strengthen the worldwide effort to stop AIDS; and WHEREAS, the World Health Organization now estimates that globally between 10 .and 12 million people are currently infected with HTV and that over 1.5 million of them have gone on to develop AIDS; and, WHEREAS, up to July 3.992, 23Q,179 men, women, and children in the U.S. have been diagnosed with AIDS; of these, 150,11 have died, according to the Center for Disease Control; it is estimated that between 1 and 1.5 million Americans currently are infected with HTV; and WHEREAS, World AIDS Day/National AIDS Awareness Day 1992 will focus on community commitment, fostering empathetic and respectful attitudes towards people with HIV/AIDS living in our community; promoting support and care for all people with HIV/ATDS, their families and friends; and THEREFORE „ the Butte County Board of Supervisors do hereby declare December 1, 1992 as World AIDS Day/National ATDS Awareness Day and urge all of our citizens to take part in activities and observances designed to increase awareness and understanding of AIDS as a global challenge, to take part in ATDS prevention activities and programs and to join the global effort to prevent transmission of the HTV virus and the spread of ATDS. -2- PASSED AND ADOPTED this 1st day of December, 1992 by the Butte County Board of Supervisors by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors McInturf, Houx, McLaughlin, Fu1~on and Chair Dolan NOES: None ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: None JANDOLAN,"Chair, Butte Boa of Supervisors ATTEST: JOHN S.
