HomeMy WebLinkAbout93-023WHEREAS, the County of Butte recognizes that it is in the public interest to
enact and implement an integrated waste management plan to address the State's
diminishing landfill capacity and the potential adverse environmental impacts from
landfilling; and
WHEREAS, as part of its plan to conserve landfill capacity and address
potential environmental impacts from landfilling, the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Butte adopted the Source Reduction and Recycling Element and Household
Hazardous Waste Element on November 10, 1992; and
WHEREAS, funding has been established by Assembly Bill 2448 (Eason, 1987),
and is available from the Solid Waste Disposal Site Cleanup and Maintenance Account
in the General Fund through the California Integrated Waste Management Board for
grants to local governments to establish and implement waste diversion and separation
programs to prevent disposal of hazardous waste, including household hazardous waste,
in solid waste landfills; and
WHEREAS, the Director of Public Works has proposed making an application
for such a grant consistent with the Source Reduction and Recycling Element and
Household Hazardous Waste Element, to purchase equipment for collecting and storing
household hazardous waste and to conduct a pilot household hazardous waste collection
program within the Chico Urban Area.
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Board of Supervisors of the
County of Butte authorizes the submittal of an application to the California Integrated
Waste Management Board for a Household Hazardous Waste Discretionary Grant in
the amount of $61,914. The Director of Public Works of the County of Butte is
hereby authorized and empowered to execute in the name of the County of Butte all
necessary applications, contracts, and agreements and amendments thereto for the
purposes of securing grant funds and to implement and carry out the purposes
specif ed in this application.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DISCRETIONARY GRANT APPLICATION
TO THE CALIFORNIA INTEGRATED WASTE MANAGEMENT BOARD
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors, County of Butte, State
of California, this 23rd day of February 1993 by the following vote:
