individuals to adopt healthful lifestyles, assists in the
prevention of diseases and provides leadership in creating a
healthful environment; and
WHEREAS, public health services benefit the. entire
population of Butte County, crossing all ethnic, socioeconomic, and
individual family and social strata of our communities; and
WHEREAS, the State of California and many other states
have designated the first week in April as Public Health Week; and
WHEREAS, 1993 is~the 100th Anniversary of Public Health
Nursing in the United States, and
WHEREAS, greater public knowledge and awareness of
healthful behavior are cost-effective and contribute significantly
to the reduction of needless suffering; and
WHEREAS, public health professionals and all those who
promote public health play important roles in providing for the
health and welfare of our citizens, and they undertake their duties
with genuine concern and compassion that are worthy of widespread
praise and appreciation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County
Board of Supervisors does hereby proclaim April 12-18, 1993 as
Public Health Week in Butte County and urge all citizens to join in
this important observance.
