HomeMy WebLinkAbout93-087WHEREAS, in 1976, RAMONA FLYNN was elected the first
president of the Chico Friends of the Library, an organization that
formed upon consolidation of the Chico Public Library and the Butte
County Library branch in Chico to focus public attention on library
services, facilities, and needs; and to stimulate gifts, endowments
and bequests and to facilitate the use of the library. RAMONA
FLYNN has served continuously on its board, presiding three times
as president, most recently the 1992-93 term of office.
WHEREAS, RAMONA FLYNN served on the Berard of Directors of
the Butte County Library Corporation formed in 1981, a non-profit
public benefit corporation to assist in financing the public
library buildings to be located in Chico and Gridley. The Chico
Library and Gridley buildings were completed in 1982. RAMONA FLYNN
served continuously on the board until the band of indebtedness, in
1992, was satisfied, and the corporation was disbanded. On
September 4, 1981, RAMONA FLYNN was acknowledged by the Chico
Enterprise Record for her diligent work on behalf of the cause,
both as a member of the volunteer Friends of the Library and a
member of the Library Corporation.
WHEREAS, RAMONA FLYNN, served on the Butte County
Library Task Force, established by the Board of Supervisors in
19$6, to consider various options available to provide permanent,
long term and stable funding for the county library system.
WHEREAS, in 1988, RAMONA FLYNN was appointed as Chico
representative to the countywide Friends of the Library support
group, a group formed to study and propose means to preserve the
county library system. RAMONA FLYNN was among the supporters who
proposed "Measure A", to provide assured and adequate funding far
the county library system through a dedicated sales tax. Although
the measure was defeated, the support groups continued their
efforts to preserve the integrity of library services for all
county residents.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Board, on its
own behalf, and on behalf of the residents of the County of Butte
would like to express their deep appreciation for the unselfish
dedication, devotion and vision given by RAMONA FLYNN as she leaves
the Friends of the Library Board on June 30, 1993. The importance
of a community library and its necessity will continue to be a
major personal commitment for RAMONA FLYNN.
