HomeMy WebLinkAbout93-092WHEREAS, Proposition 112 established the California Citizens Compensation Commission, consisting of seven members appointed by the Governor, charged with establishing the annual salary and medical, dental, insurance and other similar benefits of state officers; and, WHEREAS, the Commission has reached a preliminary consensus which would increase the legislature's annual salaries to $60,000-$65,040 an or about December, 1994. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED as follows: 1. That this Board urges the commission to rescind its recommendation to increase the salaries of State Legislators from $52,500 to $50,000-$65,000. Any pay increases are excessive, until such time as the fiscal condition of the State has improved. 2. In light of the State's current fiscal crisis, it is unthinkable that this Commission could recommend imposing additional burdens on the State's General Fund. It is unlikely that the State's f scal outlook will improve by December of 1994 when these pay increases will take effect. 3. The Commission is charged with comparing the state legislature's salary with other elected officials within the State. In that regard, members of the Butte County Board of Supervisors receive an annual salary which is almost one quarter of that currrently recieved by the Legislature, and yet are still required to perform duties comparable to those of the state RESOLUTION URGING THE CALIFORNIA CITIZENS COMPENSATION CONIlVIISSION TO DECLINE PAY INCREASES FOR CALIFORNIA STATE OFFICERS legislature. In addition, the Butte County Board of Supervisors' meetings occur throughout the year, with no legislative breaks. 4. The Clerk of the Baard is directed to transmit to the California Citizens Compensation Commission a copy of this Resolution to be available for the meeting to be held June 23, 1993.
