PALERMO FIELD DAYS
WHEREAS, 25 years ago, in September of 1968, Palermo
Field Days were instituted by Palermo Volunteer Fire Company 72.
The purpose of the event was to assist in fund raising for fire
equipment and give the town of Palermo an activity in which to take
pride.
WHEREAS, in 1980 the Volunteer Firemen were no longer
able to sponsor the event. In September 1980, the Palermo
Community Council was formed and continues to sponsor the Palermo
Field Days.
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Palermo Community Council is
to improve Palermo Park and the community. In the years fallowing
formation of the council, the money raised from Palermo Field Days
has been used to make the following improvements to Palermo Park:
gazebo, monument and flag pole, covered picnic area, snack bar,
$10,000 donation for new restroom facilities, relocation of
horseshoe pits, new basketball backboards and hoops, park benches,
drinking fountains, trees and new roofing far restrooms and picnic
area.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Volunteer Fire
Company 72 and the Palermo Community Council be recognized for
instituting and continuing an event of which the citizens of
Palermo have benefited greatly and of which instills pride in their
community.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 24th day of August, 1993 by the
Butte County Board of Supervisors by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Meyer, Dolan, McLaughlin, Thomas and Chair Houx
NOES : None
NOT VOTING: None
ABSENT: None
