WHEREAS, the arts and the humanities enhance and enrich the lives of all Americans; and
WHEREAS, .the arts and humanities affect every aspect of life in America today including
the economy, social problems solutions, job creation, education, creativity, and community livability; and
WHEREAS, the National Cultural Alliance and the California Campaign for the Arts and
Humanities have developed a public awareness car~apaign in California, which includes televised public service
announcements and print advertisements on the importance of the humanities and arts to all Americans; and
WHEREAS, 23,000 cultural organizations nationwide, as well as the President of the United
States, National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the California Arts
Council, the California Council for the Humanities, California Confederation of the Arts, and the California
Assembly of Local Arts Agencies support the public awareness campaign and are encouraged to participate
in the public awareness campaign; and
WHEREAS, the California Legislature is putting forth a resolution declaring October
"Multicultural Awareness Month" to encourage the people of California to participate in cultural events that
celebrate the myriad of cultural and artistic expression of California's multiracial and multiethnic humanity;
and
Month:
WHEREAS, the month of October has been designated as National Arts and Humanities
NOW, THEREFORE, the County of Butte hereby proclaims October 1993 as Arts and
Humanities Month and call upon the citizens of Butte County to observe the month with appropriate
programs and activities.
