RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CREATION OF
A DRUG FREE ZONE
WHEREAS, a drug problem exists in and about the City of Oroville, the County of Butte,
and throughout the nation; and
WHEREAS, the sales and distribution of drugs is particularly deplorable in that it is illegal,
destroys lives, and has disastrous effects on families and communities and ultimately the future of our Nation;
and
WHEREAS, California Law Sections 11353.1, 11353.5 and Section 11380.1 of the Health and
Safety Code, and United States Code Section 845 and 845 (A) of Title 21 provide for enhanced penalties for
persons who distribute ar conspire to distribute drugs to individuals under the age of 21 or who distribute
drugs within 1,000 feet of schools and at public parks; and
WHEREAS, the County of Butte may, through the District Attorney or the U.S. Attorney
General, request State or Federal prosecution of violators of the above described sections; and
WHEREAS, the County of Butte acknowledges that the issues which justified the
establishment of Drug Free Zones around schools also exist in the areas of public parks where children play,
and neighborhoods where people live; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors that it
hereby approves the establishment of that subdivision known as the Western Pacific Addition and that portion
of Long Bar Road lying outside the City of Oroville as a Drug Free Zone.
`T'hat the clerk of the Board is directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Butte County
District Attorney's Office and the U.S. Attorney General's Office.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte this 22nd day
of Mareh, 1994, by the following vote:
AYES Supervisors Dolan., Haux, Thomas and Chair McLaughlin

NOT VOTING: None
