R~'solufion 1V'o. 94-54 RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING MAY 15 - 21, 1994 WILDFIRE PREVENTION WEEK WHEREAS, the State of California's rugged topography and Mediterranean climate, with fang, hat and dry summers, creates the world's most severe wildfire conditions; and WHEREAS, the continually increasing amount of natural fuels, many of which are still suffering from years of drought canditions, coupled with this spring's normal growth of grass and scrub, will once again pose the threat of uncontrolled wildfire, running their course across the state this summer and fall; and WHEREAS, last year's California wildfires killed four people, injured hundreds, destroyed over eleven hundred homes, caused millions of dollars in damage and cast millions of dollars to suppress; and, WHEREAS, the rapid encroachment of the State's population into rural and wildland areas places an increasing number of homeowners in the potential path of disastrous wildfires; and, WHEREAS, the People of Butte County who live, work and recreate in the wildlands must recognize that wildfire is a natural part of California's environment and learn how to protect themselves by living and being firesafe; and, WHEREAS, the people must work together to establish community fire safe groups that through a unified effort which will substantially reduce the risk of wildfire to themselves and their neighborhoods; and, NOW, THEREFORE, BE TT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors do hereby proclaim May 15 through 21 as WILDFIRE PREVENTION WEEK in Butte County and hereby urge all citizens to join in the observance.
