recognized the potential of ridesharing (alternative
transportation) as an effective measure for transportation systems
management and for the reduction of fuel consumption, air
pollution, traffic congestion, user transportation costs, and
parking needs; and
WHEREAS, the County of Butte encourages ridesharing for
its citizens by actively promoting such means of transportation as
public transit, bicycling, and carpooling; and
WHEREAS, the County is working closely with the Chico
Transportation Management Association in educating the business
community on the benefits of ridesharing; and
WHEREAS, the men and women who constitute the total work
force of this state should be mare aware of the advantages of
ridesharing to every person and business in the communities of this
state;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County
Board of Supervisors, do hereby proclaim the week of October 3-7,
1994 as RIDESHARE WEEK in the County of Butte, and urge all
citizens to join with the California State Department of
Transportation and other transportation-related groups and
individuals observing this week in honor of ridesharing.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of
Supervisors on the 27th day of September, 1994 by the following
vote:
AYES: Supervisors Meyer, Dolan, Houx, Thomas and Chair McLaughlin
