srrrrrrrrf•• •.• ~ S UP.E ••>. iQ'; ;~• ~ • ~0: :-Ar ~ ~: •~~ °y~ ~~ i ~ ~ • • ~~ARD QF" SlJPER`/I~OR~ COUiVTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA ~esc~~ufion 1~c~.9s-i~ RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COLLECTION OF CO-PAYMENT FEES FOR INMATE MEDICAL SERVICES WHEREAS, the cost of providing inmate medical services has significantly increased annually; and WHEREAS, the unnecessary and abusive use of medical services has contributed to the increase cost of medical services; and WHEREAS, it is necessary to reduce waste and preserve medical resources where they are mast needed; and WHEREAS, it is necessary to teach inmates a degree of shared responsibility in assessing the need for a health provider's inter- vention and greater compliance thus improving effectiveness of treatment; and WHEREAS, the California Legislature enacted Senate Bill No. 163 (Presley) authorizing a Sheriff to charge a fee in the amount of $3 for each inmate initiated medical visit of an inmate confined in a county jail, who has money in his or her personal account; and WHEREAS, the California Medical Association's Corrections and Detention Health Care Committee has published guidelines for charging inmate co-payment fees far medical services; and WHEREAS, the County of Butte acknowledges the issues which justified the enactment of Senate Bill No. 163 (Presley) adding Section 4011.2 to the California Penal Cade. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Butte County Board of Supervisors that it hereby approves the establishment for the collection of inmate co-payment fees for inmate initiated medical visits to be deposited in the County General Fund. That the Clerk of the Board is directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Sheriff's Office, the Treasurer's Office and to the Auditor's Office.
