Revolution initiated February as American History Month; as its
main objectives are historical, educational and patriotic; and
WHEREAS, The Society was incorporated June 4, 1891, and.
in 1896 was chartered by Congress, to which it reports annually
through The Smithsonian Institution; and,
WHEREAS, more than 700,000 members have jointed the NSDAR
since its founda.ng, and there are chapters in all 50 states,
District of Columbia, Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, France and
Mexico; and,
WHEREAS, American History Certificates and Medals are
awarded each year to children in the 5th through 8th grades; also
the outstanding Teacher of American History Contest recognizes
those teachers in public, private and parochial schools who foster
a deeper understanding of events in the struggle for independence
and freedom to pursue life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Butte County
Board of Supervisors recognizes February as American History Month.
PASSED AND ADOPTED, this 14th day of February, 1995 by
the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Meyer, Dolan, Houx, Thomas and Chair McLaughlin
NOES: None
NOT VOTING: None
