America in the armed forces; and
WHEREAS, some veterans have experienced difficulty readjusting to civilian life and have suffered great
hardship, emotional stress, and physical difficulties; and
WHEREAS, veterans, many of them disabled, represent a significant share of California's homeless
population; and
WHEREAS, although veterans often bring outstanding qualifications to the marketplace such as job skills,
experience, and maturity--qualities that employers admire in job seekers--many veterans have encountered
difficulty in securing employment; and
WHEREAS, Veterans Employment Representatives assigned to each local office of the California
Employment Development Department are committed to ensuring that veterans receive the services to which they
are entitled and to promoting employer interest in firing veterans.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE l<'T RESOLVED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors that they do
hereby proclaim May 7-13, 1995 as Hire a Veteran. Week and urge local employers, organized labor, veteran
organizations, and state and local government to lend support to this campaign to increase employment
opportunities for the men and women who have served our nation in the military.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte, State of California, this
9th day of May, 1995 by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Meyer, Dolan, Roux, Thomas and Chair McLaughlin
