HomeMy WebLinkAbout95-064RESOLUTION DESIGNATING MAY 1995 AS MENTAL HEALTH MONTH WHEREAS, in 19b3 Congress enacted the Community Mental Health Center Act enabling community mental health centers to provide comprehensive community-based services to all persons regardless of ability to pay; and WHEREAS, in Butte County, community mental health services began in 1967, therefore, providing its citizens, older adults, adults, and youth access to local services; and WHEREAS, community mental health centers serve an increasing number of patients/clients with serious mental disorders, including schizophrenia and depression, who account for over one- quarter of the community mental health center patient caseload across the country; and WHEREAS, in one out of every four American families, there is a member with some type of mental illness; and WHEREAS, community mental health centers have significantly reduced admission rates to state institutions, decreasing per capita costs for mental health services; and WHEREAS, community mental health centers have an integral component involving citizens through local mental health boards, who ensure that the mental health needs of the community are being met; and WHEREAS, Butte County Mental Health Services share with the community in enhancing the accessibility of quality, community-based mental health services to the citizens of Butte County. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors designates May, 1995, as Mental Health Month to be observed with a variety of community programs and activities.
