HomeMy WebLinkAbout95-069RESOLUTION AUTHORTZTNG THE CREATION OF A DRUG FREE ZONE WHEREAS, a drug problem exists in and about the City of Oroville, the County of Butte, and throughout the nation; and WHEREAS, the sales and distribution of drugs is particularly deplorable in that it is illegal, destroys lives, and has disastrous effects on families and communities and ultimately the future of our Nation; and WHEREAS, the citizens of South Oroville desire to improve their neighborhood and remove the blight of drug abuse; and WHEREAS, the citizens of South Oroville have declared to be and are committed to remain drug free; and WHEREAS, the citizens of South Oroville have declared to be actively involved in assisting law enforcement in the identification of drug dealers in their neighborhood; and WHEREAS, California Health and Safety Code Sections 11353.1, 11353.5, 11380.1, and 113$0.5 and United States Code Sections 845 and 845(A) of Title 21 provide far enhanced .penalties for persons who possess drugs for sale or who distribute or conspire to distribute drugs to individuals within 1,000 feet of schools and at public parks; and WHEREAS, the County of Butte may, through the District Attorney or the U. S. Attorney General, request State or Federal prosecution of violators of the above described sections; and WHEREAS, the County of Butte acknowledges that the issues which justified the establishment of Drug Free Zones around schools also exist in the areas of South Oroville and Martin Luther King Park; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors that it hereby approves the establishment of South Oroville and that portion of Martin Luther King Park outside the City of Oroville as a Drug Free Zone as attached per Exhibit "A". That the clerk of the Board is directed to send a copy of this resolution to the Butte County District Attorney's Office.
