HomeMy WebLinkAbout95-096WHEREAS, Steve Brown promoted to Unit Chief at the Butte Ranger Unit of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and was appointed County Fire Warden by the Board of Supervisors in May 1986, and on June 19, 1995, became the Fire Chief For the City of Chico; and WHEREAS, in 1986, Chief Brown immediately went to work fully integrating the state and county fire protection programs into one extremely cast and operationally effective operation that currently includes 224 career firefighters, 474 volunteer firefighters, 80 California Conservation Carps firefighters, and 200 Volunteers-In-Prevention assistants all assigned to 42 fire stations, five fire lookouts, 22 volunteer fire companies, one fire center, and one air attack base and is commonly referred to and respected as the best fire department in Northern California; and WHEREAS, Chief Steve Brawn developed and implemented numerous innovative and cost effective fire protection programs including the fire apparatus cost share program for the acquisition of new equipment; the weed abatement ordinance and several fire protection planning ordinances; the development and acquisition of equipment specifications for rescue squads, fire engines, and ladder trucks; and a technical rescue program integrated with Butte County Search and Rescue; added additional fire stations in needed areas; and WHEREAS, Chief Brown successfully assisted with saving the fire pro#ection program during difficult fiscal times, diplomatically toiled on several occasions to save Butte Fire Center from closure, fought to keep two air tankers at Chico Air Attack Base, developed automatic aid agreements with most fire departments in Butte County, and entered into cooperative fire protection agreements with the Cities of Biggs and Gridley; and WHEREAS, Chief Brown served on the American Red Cross Board of Directors, the Butte County Emergency Medical Services Coordinating CaunciI, the California Rural Fire Association Board of Directors, and the National Incident Management Seminar Board in addition to numerous local and state committees; and WHEREAS, Chief Brown was always present to ensure that the citizens of Butte County received the best possible service during such emergencies as the Kopper's Fire; the Chico Louisiana Pacific Mi11 fire; the numerous floods that inundated the county; large and damaging wildfires including the 1990 Campbell Fire, 1992 Maidu, Grand, and Burton Fires, and 1994 Barkley Fire; and countless other significant threats to life and property. ~" RESOLUTION IN APPRECIATION OF FIRE CHIEF STEVE BROWN NOW, THEREFORE, BE ~T RESOLVED, that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby commends and thanks Chief Steve Brown for all his professional efforts and accomplishments while serving as the Fire Chief of Butte County and wishes the best to Steve and his family in all their professional and personal pursuits.
