HomeMy WebLinkAbout95-121x. ~1C'til1~Ut1Ot1 RESOLUTION PROCLAIMING ANNE FRANK IN THE WORLD MONTH OCTOBER 13-NOVEMBER 11, 1995 :V~tl. 95-121 WHEREAS, the year 1995 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the end of the Holocaust, the watershed event for civilization which was marked by the systematic destruction of over twelve million lives on the grounds of racial, religious and ethnic discrimination; and WHEREAS, prejudice, racism and discrimination are still with us in overt and subtle forms; and WHEREAS, the Anne Frank in the World exhibit which will be coming to Chico in October 1995 is organized around the following four themes: I~iscrinrinatinn is ct~rael acrd irratinrral, I! is the a~dirrary citizen who discr~inrirrates, I~iseriminatinrr is a matter c~f~ersonal choice, 1~iserimination, prejradiee acrd racism trot anl~ existed irr the ~asl hrrt still exists today; and WHEREAS, by telling the story of Anne Frank, the exhibitors and the Anne Frank Center USA seek to educate about the causes, instruments and dangers of discrimination and the responsibilities of living in a democracy. NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1T RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors recognizes October 13-November 11, 1995 as Anne Frank in the World Manth, and encourages our citizens to visit the exhibit which will be held in Chica during those dates, and to participate in the extensive ancillary community programming which relates the story of Anne Frank and the Holocaust to current issues of racism and discrimination.
