SWEENEY AS EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ENLOE HOSPITAL WHEREAS, James P. Sweeney has served as Executive Director of Enloe Hospital for 28 years--more consecutive years of service at the same hospital than any administrator in Northern California; and WHEREAS, he has been the anly administrator Enloe has ever had as a nonprofit hospital; and WHEREAS, when Jim Sweeney started at Enloe, the hospital had 92 beds and less than 200 employees. There were 72 physicians on the medical staff and approximately 75 volunteers; and WHEREAS, today, after 28 years under his direction, Enloe has 208 beds, more than 1,700 employees, a medical staff of more than 225 physicians, and more than 600 volunteers; and WHEREAS, in 1984, Sweeney was elected to the Enloe Hospital Board of Trustees. That same year he was appointed to the Enloe Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, Superior California Enterprises Board of Directors, and Superior California Medical Center (Enloe Hospital's parent corporation} Board of Directors; and WHEREAS, during the 1990's, together with leadership from the hospital's Board of Trustees, medical staff and department managers, Sweeney's direction has seen to the opening of the Chico Children's Center, the new Enloe Home Care and Hospice facility and the Enloe Outpatient Center; and WHEREAS, Sweeney has been an active member in many service organizations, including Chico Economic Planning Corporation, California State University, Chico, College of Business Advisory Council, and has been a member of the Rotary Club of Chico since 1968. In 1993, Sweeney was honored by Rotary with a Paul Harris Fellowship; and WHEREAS, many health care improvements have been developed under Sweeney's leadership which will improve the quality of life for the people of Northern California for many generations to came. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that this Board, on its own behalf and on behalf of the residents of Butte County, wish to express to Jim Sweeney sincere appreciation for his many years of unselfish dedication and outstanding service rendered to the residents of Butte County, and further wish him well on his retirement.
