HomeMy WebLinkAbout96-037WHEREAS, the bicycle is a viable and environmentally sound form of transportation and an excellent farm of recreation; and WHEREAS, May is National Bike Month, and millions of Americans will experience the joys of bicycling this month through educational programs, commuting events, trail work days, helmet promotions, and charity rides; and WHEREAS, Californians in record number are turning to bicycling for recreation, exercise, and transportation; and WHEREAS, bicycle clubs, schools, parks and recreation departments, police departments, hospitals, companies, and civic groups throughout California will be promoting bicycling as an environmentally-friendly alternative to the automobile, as well as a wholesome leisure activity. NOW, THEREFORE, BE 1T RESOLVED that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby proclaims Thursday, May 16, 1996, as BUTTE COMMUTE `96 in the County of Butte, and urges all citizens to join with fellow Californians to commute by bicycle or other form of alternative transportation, and participate in the planned events.
