'4 ~~'fic~~tlfion ~~~~. 96-54 RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE CITY OF OROVILLE'S EFFORTS AND SPIRIT AS A FINALIST IN THE NATIONAL CIVIC LEAGUE'S ALL-AMERICA CITY COMPETITION WHEREAS, OROVILLE, CALIFORNIA, the county seat of Butte County, has been named a 1996 All-America City and Community Finalist by the National Civic League; and WHEREAS, only 30 cities in the United States were designated as A11-America City and Community Finalists, and only three cities were so designated in the State of California; and WHEREAS, OROVILLE will compete against the other finalists on June 13-15 in the All- America City and Community Finals in Fort Worth, Texas; and WHEREAS, OROVILLE traces its "Can Do" spirit from the rough-and-tumble days of the California Gold Rush to the glorious development of our nation's railroads, to the timber boom and creation of an agricultural breadbasket, to the building of the awesome 900-foot tall earth-filled Oroville Dam which created Lake Oroville with its 167 miles of shoreline; and WHEREAS, the citizens of the OROVILLE community will be taking their "Can Do" spirit and pride to Fort Worth, Texas, to bring back the ,dory of being one of the ten A11-America Cities and Communities in the United States for 1996. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors that OROVILLE is indeed an All-America City in every respect, and the community and its citizens have shown that they are winners. From the nuggets of the Gold Rush era to the energy and enthusiasm of the people of the 1990s, OROVILLE has been and indeed remains, and will be for years to come, the "CITY OF GOLD," and further BE IT DESIGNATED that the week of June 10-16, 1996 will be "OROVILLE ALL- AMERICA CITY FINALIST DAYS" throughout Butte County.
