HomeMy WebLinkAbout96-102RESOLUTION CREATING A SUPPLEMENTAL LAW ENFORCEMENT SERVICES FUND {SLESF) AND AN OVERSIGHT COMNHTTEE FOR C.O.P.S. (Citizen's Option for Public Safety Program) PER ASSEMBLY BILL AB3229 (Brulte) WHEREAS, the California State Assembly has passed AB 3229 (Brulte} which creates the Citizens Option for Public Safety Program {COPS). This bill allocates monies to cities and counties for law enforcement and public safety purposes. WHEREAS, COPS funds must be used on front line law enforcement services and may not be used to supplant existing law enforcement services. They may be used to supplement other fluids, however, such as the share of cost provisions of the Federal Crime Bill, so long as the money is spent on "front line" law enforcement services. WHEREAS, AB 3229 mandates that each county auditor shall create a Suppiernental Law Enforcement Services Fund (SLESF) and that an oversight committee must be formed. The oversight committee shall be comprised of five members. The Caunty CAO, Sheriff, District Attorney, one police chief and one city manager. The following persons have been appointed as the oversight committee for Butte County: rohn Blacklock Chief Administrative Officer Mick Grey Sheriff Coroner Michael Ramsey District Attorney Gordon Pitter Chief of Police Tom Lando City Manager NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Butte County Board of Supervisors that it hereby approves of the county auditor creating a Supplemental Law Enforcement Services Fund and approves of the oversight committee comprising of the five members above named. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Board of Supervisors of the County of Butte this 27th day of August, 199b, by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Meyer, Thomas and Chair McLaughlin NOES: None NOT VOTING:None ABSENT.
