HomeMy WebLinkAbout96-124RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A LOAN FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING CENTREX TELEPHONE SERVICES AND ACQUIRING COMMUNICATIONS HARD WARE WI3EREAS, telephone services must be provided to all county offices and departments, and; WI~REAS, Pacific Bell has offered to provide centrex telephone services at a reduced cost over a five year period, and; WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors has determined that a single prepayment in return for 5 years of service is in the best interests of the County, and; WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors has also determined that it is desirable to provide modern, effective communications capacity for both voice and data transmission, and; WHEREAS, such communications capacity can best be provided by installing modern communications equipment between county offices, and; WI~REAS, the Board of Supervisors has determined that the appropriate method to finance the prepayment for telephone services and the cost of providingcommunications equipment is through. a loan from the Workers Compensation Insurance Fund and the General Liability Insurance Fund; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Treasurer Tax Collector and the Auditor Controller are directed to transfer up to $ 1,800,000 from the Workers Compensation Insurance Reserve Fund or General Liability Insurance Reserve Fund to the General Fund for the purpose of providing prepaid centrex telephone service and voice and data communications equipment. The amount transferred shall constitute a loan, such loan to bear Interest at the rate earned by the County Treasury and such interest to be paid quarterly. The principal amount of the loan shall be repaid in such a manner as the Board of Supervisors may in the future direct.
