HomeMy WebLinkAbout96-130WHEREAS, pursuant to section 17000 et seq. of the Welfare and Institutions Code, the County of Butte is obligated to relieve and support all incompetent, poor, indigent persons and those incapacitated by age, disease, or accident, lawfully resident herein, who are not otherwise supported by relatives or friends or by their own means; and, WHEREAS, Senate Bill 681 amends section 17001 .5 by adding section 17001.5(4), which section permits the Board of Supervisors of each county to prohibit an employable individua! from receiving aid under section 17000 et seq. of the Welfare and Institutions Code for more than 3 months in any 12 month period; and, WHEREAS, said amendment to section 17001.5 also requires that any individual who is terminated from receiving General Assistance from the County for more than 3 months during any 12 month period must be offered an opportunity to attend jab skills or job training sessions. NOW, THEREFORE, it is resolved as follows: 1. That the County of Butte shall prohibit employable individuals from receiving aid under section 17000 et seq. of the Welfare and Institutions Code for more than 3 months in any 12 month period, provided that such persons have been provided an opportunity to attend job skii[s or job training sessions. Said job skills andlor job training sessions shall be offered through the Welfare Department or such other department as, from time to time, shall be designated by the Board of Supervisors.
