PROCLAMATION
DECLARING MARCH AS
NATIONAL SOCIAL WORKER MONTH
WHEREAS, a proclamation was issued on March 22, 19$4 by Fresident Ronald Reagan
proclaiming March as National Social Worker Month: and
WHEREAS, social work provides comprehensive supportive services including
counseling, education, vocational training, medical support and discharge planning, crisis
intervention, and protecting children and the frail elderly and dependent adults from abuse,
exploitation and neglect; and
WHEREAS, social work requires the worker to possess an excellent understanding of
self, to be proficient in exercising control over personal feelings and attitudes, and to utilize their
self knowledge effectually to develop constructive, productive and non-punitive helping
relationships with clients; and
WHEREAS, social work requires the performance of multiple, diverse and unique roles
including, but not limited to, counselor, resource person, advocate, nurturer, teacher, investigator
and case manager; and
WHEREAS, social workers are assisted in the performance of their duties by a variety
of highly skilled medical staff, school personnel, administrative and clerical support staff, and
social work colleagues in the many inter-related social service agencies in the public and private
sector,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Board of Supervisors of the County
of Butte, State of California, hereby declares the month of March 1997 as Social Worker Month
in Butte County to honor all social workers for their commitment to the profession of social work,
their dedication to the highest moral and ethical standards, their practice of social work with the
competency of their profession and their regard as their primary obligation the welfare and
support of individuals and families served.
PASSED AND ADOPTED on the 11th day of March 1997 by the F3utte County Board of
Supervisors by the following vote:
AYES: Supervisors Beeler, Dolan, Houx, Josiassen and Chair Davis
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
NOT VOTING.
