WHEREAS it is the desire of the Inforn~ation Systems Policy Committee and the Butte
County Board of Supervisors that the County exercise sound and legal judgement with respect to
use of any and all software on County owned information systems hardware, and all personally
owned equipment and software used for County purposes.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED 'T'HAT:
any software used on County owned information systems hardware or used for
County purposes shall be licensed and used in accordance ~~-ith all contractual
requirements as set forth by the software manufacturer or provider. In general, this
requires the maintenance of a one-to-one relationship between the number of licenses
and the number of computers on which this software is installed, unless site licensing
arrangements are made and documented,
2. each County Department shall be responsible for providing proof of satisfactory
licensing, on demand;
3. all software installed on Co~uity computing systems shall be the exclusively licensed
property of the County or shall meet all software licensing requirements and
obligations of the manufacturer. provider, or vendor;
4. no software, whether County owned or personally owned, shall be used on County
information svstems hardware unless it meets the conditions as indicated above.
5. it shat] be the responsibility of each County Department head to ensure adherence
to this policy and the part of hislher employees;
6. faihue to adhere to this policy may subject an individual to legal andlor diseiplinal-~~
action.
