HomeMy WebLinkAbout97-116~~* ~~ ~S Up,~y;~~i• • .n ~ 4 ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ :~ ~ ^{~. :TA^ ^ ^ • 1k : . * ^ ~ i ~ ~ .1 BOARCI OF SUPERVISORS COUNTY OF BUTTE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA Reso~ufion lbw. 9~-lip RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CREATION OF A DRUG FREE ZONE WHEREAS, a drug problem is evident in and around the community of PALERMO, the County of Butte, and throughout the nation; and WHEREAS, the sales and distribution of drugs is particularly deplorable in that it is illegal, destroys lives, and has disastrous effects on families and communities and ultimately the future of our nation; and WHEREAS, the majority of citizens of the community of PALERMO have declared to be and are committed to remain drug free, and declared to be actively involved in assisting law enforcement in the identification of drug dealers in their neighborhood; and WHEREAS, California Health and Safety Code Sections 11353.1, 11353.5, 11380.1 and 11380.5 and United States Code Sections 845 and 845(A) of Title 21 provide for enhanced penalties for persons who possess drugs for sale or who distribute or conspire to distribute drugs to individuals within 1000 feet of schools and at public parks; and WHEREAS, the County of Butte may, through the District Attorney or the U. S. Attorney General, request State or Federal prosecution of violators of the above-described sections; and WHEREAS, the County of Butte acknowledges that the issues which justified the establishment of a Drug Free Zone around schools also exist in the community of PALERMO and PALERMO PARK; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors that it hereby approves the establishment of a Drug Free Zone for that portion of the community of PALERMO within the boundaries more particularly described in attached Exhibit "A"; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Board be directed to send this resolution to the Butte County District Attorney's Office.
