HomeMy WebLinkAbout98-005;~, ~' ~.r.,: _ ~: 4 y,~, , ^~. _. _ r'µ _ WHEREAS, Martin Luther King, Jr., devoted his life to the tight for full citizenship rights of the poor, disadvantaged and racial minorities in the United States; and WHEREAS, Martin Luther King, Jr., in 1964, became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for his work to "subpoena the conscience of the nation before the -judgement seat of morality"; and WHEREAS, today we celebrate the nonviolent calls of Mal-tin Luther King, Jr., to not discriminate in the assurance of-opportunity for all people; and WHEREAS, Martin Luther King, Jr., assassinated an April 4, 196$, was recognized as a symbol of moral and social progress to the country by having his birthday designated as a national holiday in 1983. NOW, THEREFORE, SE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte Colmty Board of Supervisors does hereby proclaim and affirm January 19, 1998 as the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr., and encourages all residents to acknowledge the value of all people and to participate in activities that honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. PASSES AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 13th day of January 1998 by the following vote: AYES: Supervisors Beeler, Dolan, Haux, Josiassen and Chair Davis NOES: None ABSENT: None NOT VOTING: None ~-~~~ Chair Board of Supervisors ATTEST: JOHN S.
