RESOLUTION IN APPRECIATION OF
LOWELL A. "JAKE" WALGENBACH

WHEREAS, this Board expresses its appreciation to Lowell A. "Jake" Walgenbach for his 23 plus
years as Chief Executive Officer of the Butte County Fair: and
WHEREAS, Jake Walgenbach joined the Butte County Fair staff as Secretary!Manager to the Fair
Board in 1974. Jake served the community of Gridley as a member of the Rotary Club, the Chamber of
Commerce, holding offices in both those organizations, as we}1 as 4-H, FFA and Little League. On a state
}evel, he was a member of the Western Fairs Association serving on many committees and holding offices
such as President and Board of Directors. The Association honored him in 1995 by inducting him into the
WFA Hall of Fame: and
WHEREAS, in (990 a challenge to draw more visitors to the fair, led to the development of the
"Sportsman"s Expo" as an integral part of the fair that doub}ed the attendance in just two years; and
WHEREAS, from the traditional rodeos, livestock shows and concerts to tractor pulling contests
and snowmobile races, .lake always provided Iris audiences with something exciting to see at the Fair.
Many people come to enjoy the park like grounds, which he planted with fifty new trees each year to ensure
future generations of fair goers a lush, green canopy under which to enjoy the fair.
WHEREAS, Jake Walgenbach retired on December 31, 1497 after serving the Butte County Fair
for twenty-three years with extraordinary distinction and leadership.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Board, on its own beha}f and on behalf of
the residents of Butte County, expresses their deep appreciation for the unselfish dedication and devotion
given by .lake V1t'algenbach during his 23 years with the Butte County Fair, and further wish him well on
his retirement.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the Butte County Board of Supervisors this 27th day of January
1998 by the following vote:
