HomeMy WebLinkAbout98-063 RESOLUTION DEDICATING THF, tIPPFR RIDGE FIRE STATION 33 TO W. J. (MATT) MATSON WHERF,AS, the County of Butte provides fire and rescue services throughout the unincorporated areas of the county under the direction of the Baard of Supervisors and under the Leadership of the County Firc Vv'arden; and WHEREAS, the County of Butte operates the Upper Ridge Fire Station 33 in the Magalia community; and WHEREAS, tV. ,I. (Matt) Matson was an early Upper Ridge community leader and continues to positively lead the development of those communities to this date; and WHEREAS, Matt Matson was born in 1907, moved to the Paradise Pines community in 1973, joined the newly formed Upper Ridge Coordinating Council (URCC) in 1974, served as the President ofthe URCC during the period 1975-1976, and served on numerous other public service and effective working groups and committees including the Butte County Planning Commission; and WHEREAS, Matt Matson was instrumental in the formation and successful election of County Service Area 53 on January 1, 1976, which provided the fast developing Upper Ridge communities career firefighters in addition to the existing strong volunteer fire companies; and WHEREAS, Matt Matson tivas also the leader pushing for the construction in 1977 of the current Fire Station 33 in Magalia. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED. that the Butte County Board of Supervisors hereby dedicates the Upper Ridge Fire Station in the name of ~l. J. (Matt) Matson for his continuing volunteer efforts to make the Upper Ridge communities safe and pleasant places to live and work; and FURTHER, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Butte County Baard of Supervisors directs the Butte County Fire Department to place a plaque on the front of Fire Station 33 dedicating the fire station in the name of ~'. J. (Matt) Matson.
