GREY Whereas, this Board expresses its appreciation to Mick Grey for his 32 years of dedicated service to the Butte County Sheriffs Office. Whereas, Mick Grey began his law enforcement career with the Butte County Sheriff's Office in November 1966, as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff. In September 1967, he was appointed to the position of Deputy Sheriff. In November 1972, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. [n October 1977, he was appointed to Lieutenant and developed the co~mty's first Field 'braining Program. That program has served as a model for many law enforcement agencies statewide. In February ] 983, he was promoted to the position of Captain where he served as the Patrol Division Commander. He developed the county's first daylight patrols, the Designated Area Deputy Program and the county's first tactical unit. In April 1987, he was promoted Assistant Sheriff in charge of the Law Enforcement Operations. It was under his command that the Investigation Unit became highly specialized and recognized as one of the best in the North State. F1e also developed the county's highly successful narcotic and marijuana units. Ne was elected to his firsttern~ of office in 1940 becoming Butte County's 21" Sheriff. It was under Sheriff Grey's leadership that the county's law enforcement evolved into the efficient and modern operation it is today. Sheriff Grey was responsible for improving the antiquated escape prone County Jail into efficient modern facilities. Also, during his term, he opened new substations, developed the S.T.A.R.S. program that has served as a statewide model, and instituted the county's first drug prevention program into the public schools..S'heriffGrey also holds the official title as Butte County Marshal, County Constable, and serves as the County Coroner. Whereas, after serving the citizens of Butte County for 32 years, Mick Grey wi I I retire on Deceil~ber 30, 1998. NOW, THEREFORE, I5 IT RESOLVED by the Board of Supervisors, on its own behalf and on behalf of the residents of the County of Butte: That said Board expresses their deep appreciation for the unselfish dedication and devotion given by .Sheriff Mick Grey during his 32-year career with the Butte County Sheriff s Office.
