RESOLUTION IN APPRECIATION OF
ELIZABETH E. MAXON UPON RETIREMENT AS
BUTTE COUNTY PUBLIC GUARDIANlPUBLIC ADMINISTRATOR
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Maxon has announced her retirement as the Butte County Public
Guardialti'Public Administrator as of January 29, 1999; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Maxon began her career with the County of Butte in 1970 with the
Butte County District Attorney handling cases under the Public Administrator, She was appointed
by the Board of Supervisors to till the position of Public Guardian in 1981. In 1986, by voter
approval, the office of the Public Administrator was combined with the Public Guardian; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Maxon has diligently served the County of Butte as Public
Guardian in providing valuable and urgently needed care of the community's most helpless and
neediest citizens at a time in life when they were unable to care for themselves as a result of
abandonment. abuse. neglect, physical or mental challenges and/or illness; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Maxon has served the County of Butte as Public Administrator in
providing protection and management of a decedent's estate where there is no family or friends. She
has also provided for burial for the community's indigent citizens; and
WHEREAS, in the execution of her duties, Elizabeth Maxon has been a faithful steward
of the duties entrusted to her by the County of Butte and has acted with integrity and courage in the
face of overwhelming obstacles. She has devoted a "hands-on" approach to client care. and has been
willing to place her own person at risk of illness and. or physical injury in order to meet the needs
of others. She has given the highest priority to the issue of elderldependent adult abuse and neglect;
and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth Maxon, has earned the love, respect and affection of all those
associated with her, and in particular those clients placed in her charge and served by the County of
Butte.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that this Board, on its own behalf and on
behalf of the residents of the County of Butte, wishes to express to ELIZABETH E. MAXON,
sincere appreciation for her many years of unselfish dedication and outstanding service rendered to
the residents of the C~ unty of Butte, and further wish her well on her retirement.
PASSED AND ADOPTED by the F3utte County Board of Supervisors on this 26tH day of
January 1999 by the folloti~~ing vote:
